Demirci celebrates Liberation Festival with music and commemorative crafts

The Demirci district is celebrating its 2nd Liberation Festival, organized by the Demirci Municipality from August 25 to 30. The festivities include various cultural events and musical performances to mark the upcoming August 30 Victory Day and the anniversary of the town's liberation from occupation.

As part of the celebrations, the musical group Grup İkilem performed in the district square, drawing thousands of attendees. Following the performance, Mayor Erkan Kara and Vice Mayor İsmail Hakkı Gül presented the group with a geographically indicated Demirci carpet. The festival program is set to continue with performances by Mela Bedel, Ozan Manas, and Irmak Arıcı, concluding with a lantern procession on the evening of August 30.

In a separate commemorative effort, 15 volunteer women from the Demirci Public Education Center created a massive knitted Turkish flag to honor the national holiday. Led by instructor Emine Gülsen, the group spent approximately 10 days working on the project. The final piece, measuring 1.5 by 2.25 meters, was constructed from 813 individual motifs using three kilograms of red and white yarn.
