Demirören Medya warns of potential removal of TV series in Turkey
Murat Yancı, TV Group President of Demirören Medya, has warned that the Turkish television and series industry is facing a severe economic crisis. He stated that rising production costs combined with declining advertising revenues have made it nearly impossible to produce new series or programs.
Yancı noted that industry representatives and producers are holding discussions regarding the future of the sector, during which the total removal of television series from broadcasts has been proposed as a possibility. He emphasized that the crisis is not due to content quality or viewership, but rather the inability to cover costs through current advertising models.
Furthermore, Yancı highlighted unfair competition between traditional television and digital platforms. He pointed out that while television channels face strict regulations, such as bans on advertising certain dietary supplements, digital platforms operate with fewer restrictions. He also noted that television provides high-cost content for free, whereas digital platforms utilize paid subscription models.
