Democracia Cristã names presidential candidate amid Bahia leadership dispute
The Christian Democracy (DC) party is navigating internal leadership disputes and officializing new national candidates. In Bahia, the party faces an impasse regarding its gubernatorial candidate after two separate slates were registered following conflicting court rulings. Ariel Capistrano, who claims leadership via a civil court injunction, and Estevão, who secured a leadership injunction from the Electoral Court, have both proceeded with party conventions.
At the national level, the DC party has officially announced Clariana Barão as its candidate for the Presidency of the Republic. Barão, a lawyer from Mato Grosso, is the first candidate to run for the position since the party's founding, as previous presidential bids were led by founder José Maria Eymael. Her platform emphasizes social causes and the fight against domestic violence. She is joined by Fabiana Torquato, a specialist in land regularization, as her vice-presidential candidate.
