Democracy for Citizens Party forms committee to vet defecting politicians

The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) has established a seven-member committee to vet politicians seeking to join the party, specifically targeting those defecting from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Murang'a Senator Joe Nyutu, a member of the vetting team, stated that prospective members must publicly declare their intention to leave their current parties. The committee aims to ensure that defectors are genuinely committed to the DCP's political agenda rather than seeking political survival due to declining fortunes in their current affiliations. Nyutu emphasized that the party will reject those joining merely to ‘save [their] skin’ as their current political sides lose ground.

The vetting panel is chaired by Nyandarua Senator John Methu and includes several other officials: Kiambu Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina, Naivasha MP Jane Kihara, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, and Embakasi Central MP Mejja Donk. The process was initiated by DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
