Democracy Union of Africa holds women’s leadership conference in Namibia
The maiden Democracy Union of Africa (DUA) Women’s Conference is taking place in Windhoek, Namibia, from October 23 to 28, 2026. Attracting over 320 participants from across the continent, the event focuses on the theme “Women Working Together for Political Power, Progress and Prosperity.”
Keynote speaker Samira R. Bawumia, former Ghanaian Second Lady, challenged women leaders to expand their influence and strengthen political leadership across Africa. Discussions at the conference aim to address barriers to political participation, such as high nomination and membership fees, and the need to move beyond tokenism toward meaningful decision-making authority within democratic institutions.
The DUA, a continental alliance of more than 25 centre-right political parties, is hosting the event with support from the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS). The conference includes high-level panels on the role of women in political leadership and the development of stronger democratic networks throughout Africa.
