Democratic attorneys general raise concerns over election security

A group of Democratic attorneys general from California, Connecticut, Michigan, Washington, and Wisconsin have expressed significant concern regarding election security and the potential for federal interference. During a discussion in Detroit, officials including Rob Bonta (California), Josh Kaul (Wisconsin), and William Tong (Connecticut) identified the seizure of ballots by the federal government during closely contested elections as a primary concern.

The attorneys general noted that such actions could interfere with the integrity of free and fair elections. They highlighted several areas of legal tension, including efforts to restrict mail-in ballots, the deployment of election monitors by the Justice Department, and attempts to obtain state voter rolls.

Attorney General Tong noted that previous attempts to secure voter rolls from various states have been unsuccessful. The group emphasized that states and Congress maintain the authority to determine the time, place, and manner of elections, rather than federal agencies or the president. They expressed readiness to pursue immediate legal action in court should any attempts to seize ballots occur before results are certified.
