Democratic Bulgaria submits declaration against sending troops to Ukraine

The Democratic Bulgaria (DB) political formation has submitted a declaration to the Bulgarian National Assembly to reaffirm the country's decision not to involve its armed forces in the war in Ukraine. Co-chairman Bozhidar Bozhanov stated the move aims to stop "lies, speculations, manipulations, and intimidation of the Bulgarian people" regarding the nation's involvement in the conflict.

Bozhanov accused political opponents, including President Rumen Radev and the Progressive Bulgaria party, of misrepresenting a security agreement signed during a previous caretaker government as a treaty for military participation. He noted that President Radev himself recently stated the agreement does not entail financial or military commitments for Bulgaria.

Additionally, DB representative Ivaylo Mirchev criticized the government following a failed extraordinary parliamentary session. The session was intended to address the burning of Starlink satellite antennas near the village of Plana. Mirchev questioned the adequacy of national security services and whether authorities had received prior warnings regarding such incidents.
