Democratic candidates shift stance on Israel military aid
Democratic Senate nominees are increasingly distancing themselves from traditional pro-Israel groups and the longstanding party position of providing unconditional military aid to Israel. This shift reflects changing public opinion within the party, with recent polling indicating high levels of sympathy toward Palestinians and opposition to further economic or military assistance for Israel among Democratic voters.
The influence of the Democratic Majority for Israel (DMFI) has declined, with endorsements for Senate nominees dropping from nine in 2022 to only two in the current cycle: Representative Chris Pappas in New Hampshire and former Governor Roy Cooper in North Carolina. In other races, such as in Michigan and Minnesota, candidates endorsed by DMFI lost their primaries to progressive opponents who campaigned against their support for the Israeli government.
