Democratic engagement initiatives launched in Uruguay and Mexico

Students from Colegio San José in Uruguay are preparing for the ‘Diputados por un Día’ (Deputies for a Day) program. On September 24, 5th and 6th-year students will participate in a simulated parliamentary session at the Chamber of Deputies. The initiative, which includes training led by Parliamentary Liaison Director José Giraudo, aims to introduce youth to democratic principles and legislative functions through practical experience.

In Mexico, the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) has approved the call for citizens to participate as observers for the 2026-2027 Local Ordinary Electoral Process. Following guidelines from the National Electoral Institute (INE), interested individuals can apply for accreditation from September 11, 2026, to May 10, 2027. Accredited observers may monitor various stages of federal and local electoral processes, including election day, provided they maintain impartiality and have no ties to political parties or social programs.
