Democratic mayors launch ‘Blue Cities/Red States’ political initiative
A coalition of 15 Democratic mayors from Republican-leaning or purple states has launched a new political initiative called ‘Blue Cities/Red States’. Led by Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, the group aims to influence national politics by providing a centrist alternative to both the MAGA movement and the far-left wing of the Democratic Party.
The group represents over seven million Americans across 11 states, including cities such as Atlanta, Jacksonville, Boise, Tulsa, and Memphis. The initiative will be officially presented in Miami, hosted by Mayor Eileen Higgins. The coalition intends to establish a permanent national platform, fundraising infrastructure, and systems for testing political messaging through polling.
Mayor Bibb suggested that these mayors can serve as a testing ground for Democratic messaging focused on public safety, economic growth, and cost-of-living affordability. The group also plans to develop a national media advertising strategy ahead of the 2026 and 2028 election cycles and is engaging with members of Congress to align political programs.
