Democratic National Committee Mortgages Headquarters for $15 Million Loan Amid Cash Crisis
Facing a cash shortfall ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterm elections, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) pledged its headquarters as collateral to secure a $15 million loan, the largest such borrowing in a midterm cycle. The organization entered the loan already over $2 million in debt and with just $16 million in cash on hand.
The move has sparked internal concerns about the leadership of DNC Chair Ken Martin. An unnamed DNC member told NOTUS, “Ken gaslighting us about the DNC’s finances and not being transparent about the financial situation makes us doubt if he can oversee the DNC during the most important primary of our lifetime.”
By comparison, the Republican National Committee holds roughly $128 million in cash, underscoring a stark fundraising gap between the two parties as the election season approaches.
