Democratic Party alleges procurement irregularities involving TIMAK Defence

The Democratic Party of Albania has raised allegations of financial irregularities regarding a payment of approximately 8.6 million lek to the company TIMAK Defence. Genta Vangjeli, the party’s anti-corruption spokesperson, claims that the chronological order of procurement documents suggests improper handling of public funds.

According to the party, TIMAK Defence issued an invoice on July 8, 2026, which predates both the official order to develop the procurement procedure (July 22, 2026) and the signing of the contract (August 6, 2026). The Treasury subsequently paid 8,641,296 lek on August 18, 2026, as an advance payment for the purchase of vehicles for the IKMT.

The Democratic Party is demanding explanations from the Ministry of Interior regarding why an invoice was issued before the legal procedures and contracts were established. They also raised questions concerning the relationship between TIMAK Defence and KAYO.
