Democratic Party faces leadership shifts in Castel Volturno and Città di Castello

Political shifts are occurring within the Democratic Party (PD) in several Italian municipalities ahead of upcoming elections.

In Castel Volturno, PD secretary Alessandro Buffardi announced that the party will not support the candidacy of former minority councilor Anastasia Petrella. Buffardi stated that Petrella has not been representative of the minority's interests or the party. The local coalition is currently evaluating its next steps, including whether former mayor Pasquale Marrandino will seek re-election.

In Città di Castello, current mayor Luca Secondi has announced he will not seek re-election. While Secondi attributed his decision to personal reasons and noted the successful completion of his objectives, local reports suggest internal party complications. This vacancy has triggered early discussions regarding potential successors for the 2027 elections, with names such as Senator Walter Verini and Michele Bettarelli being mentioned in local political circles.
