Democratic Party for the People launches leadership election

The Democratic Party for the People has officially announced its leadership election, featuring a contest between incumbent Yuichiro Tamaki and Mikihiko Hashimoto. The election, which will be decided by vote on October 6, focuses on the party's ability to evolve into a major political force capable of leading the government.

Mikihiko Hashimoto proposed a structural reform where he would serve as party representative managing operations, while positioning Tamaki as a ‘next prime minister’ figure to focus on policy and administration. Hashimoto emphasized the need to transform the party from a collection of individual politicians into a modern, organized political entity that can challenge the Liberal Democratic Party.

Yuichiro Tamaki pledged to move the party to its ‘next stage,’ aiming to become the largest opposition party by the House of Councillors election in two years. Tamaki highlighted the importance of addressing economic issues, such as tax burdens and inflation, to support working citizens and promised to lead the party toward being a force that can drive policy implementation rather than just proposing it.
