Lee Jae-myung approval rating hits 38.9% amid calls for reform
President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating has dropped to 38.9%, marking the first time it has entered the 30% range since his inauguration. According to a Jo Won C&I survey, negative sentiment reached 57.9%, with declines noted across most age groups and regions, except for the Honam area. In response, the Blue House stated it would prioritize the economy and people's livelihoods to address the declining support.
Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok held a supreme committee meeting in Andong to address regional issues and strengthen the party's presence in non-district areas. Kim emphasized the need for police reform to eradicate six major abuses, including evidence concealment and unauthorized case closures. He also pledged to support regional growth and tourism in the Gyeongbuk area.
Separately, President Lee issued an urgent directive to deploy all available resources for the search and rescue of eight South Korean citizens reported missing following floods in Nepal. The government is coordinating with Nepalese authorities to ensure the safety of citizens and provide support to their families.
