Democratic Party leaders outline priorities at Festa dell’Unità

Leaders of the Italian Democratic Party (PD) have utilized the Festa dell’Unità events in Palermo and Foggia to outline opposition priorities and regional ambitions.

In Palermo, the event drew over 9,500 attendees and featured 15 panels discussing topics such as labor, housing, security, and social justice. National Secretary Elly Schlein emphasized the need for a stronger Europe and highlighted the importance of public healthcare and education. Provincial Secretary Teresa Piccione noted that the discussions aimed to build a shared program for upcoming local, regional, and national elections.

In Foggia, PD National Secretary Elly Schlein and Puglia Regional President Antonio Decaro addressed the challenges facing the center-left. Decaro expressed his ambition to serve as Regional President and called for an additional 6 billion euros to prevent healthcare deficits. Schlein proposed that a center-left victory would see healthcare spending rise to 7% of GDP, contrasting this with potential increases in military spending under a right-wing government. She also addressed the rising cost of living linked to international conflicts.
