Democratic Party member Choi Min-hee calls falling approval ratings 'disastrous
Choi Min-hee, a supreme council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, has described the party's recent decline in approval ratings as “disastrous.” Speaking on a YouTube news program, Choi noted that the party is failing to meet the expectations of its supporters, particularly observing a decline among progressive voters and those in their 40s, which she characterized as a “sign of crisis.”
Choi attributed the loss of support to several factors, including the perceived failure to satisfy high expectations for the Lee Jae-myung administration and internal strategic divisions regarding whether to focus on core supporters or expand toward the political center. She also cited the rushed implementation of policies, such as the comprehensive investigation of farmland, which directly impacted citizens' property interests.
To address the situation, Choi proposed emergency measures, including pursuing a special prosecutor for alleged manipulated prosecutions and the impeachment of Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae. Recent polling data from Realmeter indicates a significant shift, with the Democratic Party's support dropping to 35.5%, while the People Power Party rose to 41.3%, marking a reversal in the lead between the two major parties.
