Democratic Party of Korea pushes for special counsel law

The Democratic Party of Korea has announced plans to re-introduce a special counsel law to investigate allegations of fabricated prosecutions during the Yoon Suk Yeol administration. Following a case report session by the Special Committee on the Investigation of Allegations of Fabricated Prosecutions, party leaders stated they intend to clarify the truth behind claims of coercion and persuasion during investigations.

Legislators plan to submit the bill to the Legislation and Judiciary Committee next week. To address previous controversies, the party is considering a separate version of the bill that excludes the clause regarding the power to cancel public prosecutions, a move following requests from President Lee Jae-myung. The party aims to move quickly to ensure the investigation covers 12 specific cases, including those involving Lee Jae-myung.

Separately, other legislative efforts are underway to support small and medium-sized enterprises. Representative Jung Jin-uk has proposed two bills aimed at protecting SME rights and stabilizing management, including amendments to the Sales Support Act and the Subcontracting Act to provide more flexible administrative measures and incentives for fair trade.
