Kosovo opposition files criminal complaints over institutional deadlock

Kosovo is facing a deepening institutional crisis as opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), accuse Prime Minister Albin Kurti of blocking the constitutional process of forming new institutions.

Aleanca has filed a criminal complaint with the Special Prosecution against the caretaker government and the acting Prime Minister. The complaint alleges that 17 decisions made on August 12, including the appointment of commissions for recruiting high-level officials and the selection of a Secretary General, are illegal and violate the Law on the Government.\n Simultaneously, the PDK has filed a criminal complaint against deputy Avni Dehari for suspected abuse of official position. The party alleges that Dehari, acting as the temporary chair of the Assembly's constitutive session, failed to continue the session within the required 48-hour timeframe, thereby preventing the constitution of the Assembly and parliamentary oversight of the caretaker government.

Opposition members have also protested in front of the government building, arguing that deputies cannot simultaneously hold executive functions after being sworn into the Assembly. While some political figures suggest the impasse could last until mid-September, the opposition continues to demand the immediate constitution of the Assembly.
