Democratic Party provincial representatives seek Local Council Act enactment

Democratic Party representatives from the Gyeongnam, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeonggi provincial councils met to discuss cooperation regarding the enactment of the Local Council Act. The delegations emphasized the need for institutional improvements to enhance the independence, autonomy, and professional expertise of local councils.

Key objectives discussed include strengthening the ability of local councils to monitor executive branches and better reflect resident voices in policy. Specifically, representatives called for the swift passage of the pending Local Council Act in the National Assembly. Discussions also touched upon easing requirements for forming negotiating groups and reforming electoral systems, such as implementing multi-member constituencies, to ensure greater diversity and better representation in local governance.
