Democratic Party urges Serbian media regulator members to resign

The Democratic Party (DS) has called on Rodoljub Šabić and other members of the Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) Council to consider resigning. The DS argues that the current Council provides a veneer of pluralism for President Aleksandar Vučić before the European Commission while failing to curb propaganda and hate speech in regime-aligned media.

The party further alleged that the REM has failed to make decisions despite the rise of a regional network of pro-government television stations, some of which reportedly operate without proper registration or REM permits. The DS also claimed the regulator has not addressed attempts to shut down independent outlets such as N1 and Nova S.

Separately, Rodoljub Šabić criticized the public broadcaster, Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), for its coverage of the anniversary of student protests in Valjevo. Šabić stated that the broadcaster's reporting was in “gross non-compliance” with its legal role, accusing the outlet of relativizing events involving police brutality rather than providing documented facts.
