Democratic Rally leaders address internal disputes

Internal tensions have surfaced within the Democratic Rally (DISY) following reports of a heated disagreement between Vice President Giannis Karousos and Deputy President Euthymios Diplaros during a communications team teleconference.

In response to the reports, Giannis Karousos issued a statement asserting that while he agrees with the principle of collective decision-making, party decisions must be respected consistently rather than applied selectively to suit personal interests. He emphasized that the party is currently in the opposition and must maintain unity. Regarding the 2028 presidential elections, Karousos stated that decisions should be made through the party’s democratic and institutional processes.

Euthymios Diplaros previously addressed the friction, noting that differing opinions are a natural part of the party’s functioning and that the ability to debate and synthesize views is a strength. DISY President Annita Demetriou has called for a reduction in tensions and requested a meeting between the two officials to resolve the matter.
