DRC seeks international recognition for GENOCOST crimes
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) marked the fourth annual GENOCOST national day on August 2, 2026. The term GENOCOST refers to mass crimes linked to the exploitation of the country's natural resources.
François Kakese, executive coordinator of the Interministerial Commission for Victim Assistance and Support for Reforms (CIA-VAR), emphasized the need to expand the national memory and transitional justice policy to an international level. He stated that the DRC's diplomatic efforts, previously initiated by Félix Tshisekedi in Geneva, will continue in cities including Paris, Brussels, Addis Ababa, and London to secure international recognition of these crimes.
This advocacy is supported by scientific, legal, and historical documentation intended to provide evidence for the crimes committed within the territory.
