Democratic Republic of the Congo manages diplomatic, financial, and energy developments
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is navigating several significant institutional and economic developments. In Kinshasa, Central African Republic President Faustin-Archange Touadéra and Republic of the Congo President Denis Sassou Nguesso are expected to attend the 10th anniversary of the College of Higher Studies of Strategy and Defense (CHESD).
On the financial front, the DRC’s national financial intelligence unit, CENAREF, has been admitted to the Egmont Group, a global network of financial intelligence cells. This membership allows for secure information exchange with international counterparts, though the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) still maintains the DRC on its increased monitoring list.
Economically, the DRC’s Ministry of National Economy reported that certified losses and missed earnings for petroleum companies reached $146.7 million for the second quarter of 2026. This represents a significant increase from the $43.7 million reported in the first quarter, a surge attributed to rising international oil prices following crises in the Persian Gulf.
