Democratic Socialists discuss potential 2028 leadership challenges

Discussions within the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) suggest potential shifts in Democratic leadership ahead of the 2028 election cycle. Reports indicate that Brooklyn City Councilman Chi Ossé could potentially challenge New York Senator Chuck Schumer for his seat, as Schumer’s term is set to expire in 2028.

Simultaneously, there is growing speculation regarding a presidential bid by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Twitch streamer Hasan Piker has expressed his intention to campaign for Ocasio-Cortez should she pursue the presidency, noting that he has been in communication with her team.

These developments reflect internal movement within the progressive and socialist wings of the Democratic Party, as members seek to move away from traditional political hierarchies.
