Democratic Socialists of America unveil radical platform as they gain influence in U.S. elections

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is updating its long‑term platform with sweeping constitutional proposals. The draft calls for eliminating the U.S. Senate, replacing the president and Supreme Court with executives and judges appointed by and subordinate to Congress, defunding the Department of Defense, and granting full amnesty to all undocumented immigrants. It also includes a 32‑hour work week with unchanged pay, Medicare for All, cancellation of student‑loan debt, universal rent control, and an end to cash bail.

The platform is being released ahead of the 2026 midterms after a series of primary victories for DSA‑backed candidates in New York, Colorado, and other states, and a high‑profile gubernatorial campaign in Wisconsin by Francesca Hong. DSA reports roughly 120,000 members, describing itself as the nation’s largest socialist organization.

Conservative commentators and some establishment Democrats have condemned the agenda as extremist and a threat to the Democratic Party. DSA leaders argue the reforms are necessary to confront economic inequality and systemic injustices.
