Democratic Socialists of America endorses candidate in Alabama House race

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has issued its first national endorsement in Alabama, supporting Democratic nominee Robert Hunter for Alabama House District 28. Hunter, a self-described Democratic socialist and Vice Chair of Minority Affairs for Etowah County, will face Republican incumbent Mack Butler in the election.

Republican leaders have criticized the move. U.S. Senator Katie Britt expressed concern regarding the influence of the DSA on the Democratic Party, stating that the policies proposed by such groups create government dependency and threaten freedoms.
