Democratic Socialists of America leader faces scrutiny over policy definitions
Megan Romer, a co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), has faced significant scrutiny following an interview on The New Yorker Radio Hour. During the discussion with host David Remnick, Romer struggled to provide specific policy details when asked to define the organization’s slogan of ‘taxing the hell out of millionaires.’
In addition to economic policy, Romer addressed the DSA’s stance on foreign policy and immigration. She stated that the organization maintains a ‘red line’ against military or economic support for Israel, supporting a ‘one-state solution’ with a free Palestine and Jerusalem as its capital. Regarding immigration, she described the DSA’s goal as allocating resources to alleviate poverty and address the international causes of migration.
Separately, DSA activists in Wilmington, North Carolina, are facing local opposition after installing over 30 unauthorized, politically themed bus stop benches. City officials removed many of the benches, citing violations of city code, lack of ADA compliance, and prohibitions against political messaging in public rights-of-way.
