Democratic Socialists of America expands influence amid policy and funding scrutiny

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is experiencing significant growth, recently reporting over 120,000 members. The organization's influence is being noted within the Democratic Party, with members participating in various campaigns and local elections.

Controversies surrounding the movement include the rhetoric of Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, who has been criticized for anti-American comments and his historical praise for Mao Zedong. Additionally, scrutiny has been directed at the organization's funding, specifically regarding Neville Roy Singham, a former technology executive whose nonprofits have been linked to significant transfers of capital into American political movements.

Internally, the DSA faces questions regarding policy specifics. During a discussion with The New Yorker, DSA Co-Chair Megan Romer was unable to provide a detailed explanation for the organization's platform of "taxing the hell out of millionaires." The group's platform also includes radical structural proposals such as abolishing the Electoral College and the Senate, and replacing the President and Supreme Court with bodies subordinate to Congress.
