Democratic Socialists of America unveils platform calling for Senate abolition and trans‑liberatory feminism

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) released a new platform that includes a ‘trans‑liberatory’ socialist‑feminist agenda. National Political Education Committee Chair Michaela Brangan described it as a push for working‑class women’s leadership, queer liberation, and protections for bodily autonomy, citing historic movements such as the 1970s wages‑for‑housework campaign.

The same platform proposes sweeping constitutional reforms: eliminating the U.S. Senate, ending the Electoral College, and restructuring the presidency and Supreme Court as bodies subordinate to Congress. DSA co‑chair Ashik Siddique argued the Senate gives disproportionate power to less‑populous states. Implementing the plan would require a two‑thirds vote in both houses and ratification by three‑fourths of the states, and would necessitate reallocating Senate duties such as treaty ratification and impeachment trials to the House of Representatives. The proposal comes amid historically low approval ratings for Congress.
