Democratic Socialists of America Call for Senate Abolition, Expanded Social Programs

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) have released a new platform that calls for the abolition of the U.S. Senate, the presidency and the Supreme Court, alongside a suite of expansive social policies. Co‑chair Gustavo Gordillo told Fox News the Senate is “undemocratic,” while Representative Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez criticized filibuster rules rooted in Jim Crow-era practices. The platform advocates a classless society with universal healthcare, free education, a federal jobs guarantee, a 32‑hour work week, tuition‑free college, debt cancellation and public ownership of utilities.

The DSA’s growing influence is underscored by recent primary victories in New York City, Denver and elsewhere, prompting many Republican leaders to label the group a communist threat and warn of a “new Red Scare.” Critics note the organization’s membership is overwhelmingly white and affluent, and point to internal tensions over race and ideology. Former members have described a shift toward more radical, revolutionary goals, while supporters argue the platform offers bold solutions to economic inequality and climate change.
