Democratic strategist predicts DSA influence will decline by 2028
Democratic strategist Yemisi Egbewole, a senior fellow at the centrist think tank Third Way, predicts that the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) will be marginalized within the Democratic Party by the 2028 presidential election. Despite recent primary victories by DSA-aligned candidates in New York and Michigan, Egbewole argues these wins do not demonstrate broad national support or a shift away from moderate candidates.
Third Way has launched a $15 million campaign through 2028 to limit the DSA’s influence through polling, outreach, and opposition research.
Data regarding DSA membership indicates a demographic profile that differs from the general American population. According to survey data, the organization's membership is predominantly white (66 percent), highly educated (80 percent hold a bachelor’s degree), and largely urban. Additionally, 56 percent of members work in white-collar professional or managerial roles, and 28 percent earn more than $100,000 annually.
