Democrats launch project to protect midterm elections

Democratic state parties and activist groups have launched the ‘New Battlefield Project’ to prepare for potential interference in the upcoming midterm elections. The initiative aims to recruit 10,000 volunteers to monitor polling locations in the event of federal officer presence.

Contingency plans include organizing mass protests against interference in voting or ballot counting, and legal scholars are providing guidance to judges regarding the potential seizure of ballots by the government. These measures respond to efforts by the Trump administration to implement proof-of-citizenship requirements and utilize the Postal Service to influence mail-in ballot distribution.

Ezra Levin of the group Indivisible noted that the level of preparation for ‘election sabotage’ is unprecedented. The heightened security and legal readiness follow previous attempts to challenge the 2020 election results and the subsequent pardoning of individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
