Democrats lead Republicans on cost of living in new poll

A Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates that Democrats hold an eight-point lead over Republicans regarding which party has a better approach to addressing the cost of living. This represents the largest advantage for the Democratic Party on this issue since the poll began tracking it in October 2025.

In the four-day survey of 951 registered voters, 36% favored the Democratic approach, while 28% favored the Republican approach. A significant portion of respondents, approximately 37%, remained undecided or felt that neither party offered a suitable plan.

The cost of living has been identified by voters as a primary factor for the upcoming November midterm elections, which will determine control of both chambers of Congress. While Democrats are gaining ground on affordability, Republicans maintain advantages on issues such as immigration and crime. Analysts noted that economic pressures, including rising gasoline prices linked to regional conflicts, continue to influence voter sentiment.
