Democrats outraise Republicans in key U.S. Congressional races

Democratic candidates are significantly outperforming Republicans in fundraising for key U.S. Congressional races ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. According to Federal Election Commission data and analysis by Punchbowl News, Democrats in six strategic Senate states—Texas, Alaska, Ohio, Maine, Michigan, and Iowa—raised between three and six times more money than their Republican opponents during the third quarter.

In Texas, Democrat James Talarico raised a record $64 million, while Republican Ken Paxton raised $10.2 million. This fundraising advantage extends to the House of Representatives, where at least 47 incumbent Republicans raised less than their Democratic or independent challengers. This trend persists despite massive financial support for conservative causes from billionaire Elon Musk, who has contributed approximately $366 million to political groups during the 2026 cycle.

Economic factors are also shaping the political landscape. Inflation, which rose to 3.7% in September, and the rising cost of living are cited as major vulnerabilities for the Republican Party. Additionally, polling indicates shifting demographics, such as a decline in support for the Republican Party among Latino voters who previously supported Donald Trump.
