At the same time, Democratic candidate Graham Platner, a veteran oyster farmer running for the U.S. Senate seat in Maine, is facing a series of personal controversies. A sexting scandal revealed that he exchanged explicit messages with multiple women after his 2023 marriage, and his ex‑girlfriend accused him of knowingly bearing an SS‑related skull tattoo from his military service. The revelations have raised questions about his electability and could jeopardise the Democrats’ chances of flipping the Senate seat.
