Democrats Unveil Redistricting Push in 13 States Ahead of 2028 Election
Democratic strategists released an internal memo outlining a plan to influence congressional redistricting in as many as 13 states before the 2028 election. The effort focuses on flipping fewer than two dozen state legislative seats in the 2024 midterms, with 19 targeted races capable of delivering Democratic trifectas in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin—states that would control subsequent redistricting. Heather Williams, president of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, said the plan aims to secure dozens of additional House seats and shape the post‑2030 redistricting process.
Former President Barack Obama will headline a fundraiser for the National Democratic Redistricting Committee in late August, signaling continued Democratic investment in gerrymandering reform and electoral advantage ahead of the 2028 cycle.
