Democritus University of Thrace and University of Connecticut sign partnership agreement

Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) has officially entered into a strategic partnership with the University of Connecticut (UConn) through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement. The agreement establishes a framework for joint academic and research activities with international scope.

The collaboration focuses on five key thematic areas: environmental science, monitoring environmental parameters and their impact on public health, energy security, environmental risk assessment, and the study of forest fires and natural environment resilience. This initiative involves close cooperation between UConn’s Institute of Environment and Energy (IoEE) and Center for Environmental Sciences and Engineering (CESE) with various departments at DUTH, including Environmental, Civil, and Economic Sciences, as well as Physical Environment and Climate Resilience.

As part of this partnership, an international meeting titled ‘Energy Resilience and Local Prosperity: International Dialogue for Energy Investments in the Region’ will be held on October 23, 2026, in Alexandroupoli. This event is open to the public and aims to strengthen scientific dialogue and regional energy investment discussions.
