Democritus University of Thrace expands presence in Soufli

The Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) is expanding its academic presence in Soufli with the launch of a new interdepartmental postgraduate program focused on ‘Crisis and Disaster Prevention and Management: Innovative Techniques in Civil Protection.’

During a visit to the municipality, DUTH Rector Fotiis Maris met with Soufli Mayor Panagiotis Kalakikos to discuss the program and the university's growing role in the region. The Mayor presented Rector Maris with an honorary plaque in recognition of his contributions, including the recent decision to establish a new Department of Food Science and Technology in Soufli.

New university facilities in Soufli are now complete and ready for use. Additionally, Maria Michalopoulou is set to become the first female Rector of the Democritus University of Thrace, effective September 1.
