Demographic aging in France is often overstated
Demographic shifts in France show that the aging of the population is often overstated. While the proportion of people over 60 has risen from 16% in 1950 to a projected 29% by 2026, the average age is influenced by factors such as increased life expectancy and the end of the baby boom era.
Data from Insee indicates that the average age reached 43.2 years in 2024. This trend is driven by longer lifespans and declining fertility rates. However, the impact is mitigated by improved health standards and better control over birth rates. Furthermore, the concept of aging is evolving, as individuals are remaining healthy and autonomous for longer periods compared to previous generations.
