Demokrat Party East Java prepares for Musda VII amid diploma controversy

The Demokrat Party in East Java is preparing for its VII Regional Consultative Meeting (Musda VII), scheduled for August 28-29, 2026, in Surabaya. The forum will involve 40 voting members, including 38 regency and city branch chairpersons, and is expected to host approximately 400 guests.

Amidst these preparations, Sukur Priyanto, the Chairman of the Demokrat Party in Bojonegoro and a voting member of the Musda, is facing a legal challenge regarding the validity of his undergraduate (S1) diploma. A civil lawsuit (Number 807/Pdt. G/2026/PN Sby) has been filed in the Surabaya District Court questioning the authenticity of his credentials.

Sukur Priyanto has denied all allegations of using a fake diploma, asserting that his degree was obtained through a legitimate educational process following his nursing diploma. He stated that his credentials have been verified through five terms of candidacy for the Bojonegoro Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) and emphasized that no court ruling has invalidated his education. Despite the controversy, Sukur maintained his political support for Emil Dardak.
