Demon Hunter band sues Netflix over K-Pop film title

The Christian metal band Demon Hunter, through its management company Hyde Lane, Inc., has filed a lawsuit against Netflix and AEG Presents in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The legal action alleges trademark infringement, false designation of origin, and unfair competition regarding the animated film ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’.

Hyde Lane claims the title creates significant brand confusion and overlaps with the band’s 25-year history of music, touring, and merchandise. The lawsuit cites instances of consumer confusion, including a fan who reportedly attempted to purchase concert tickets under the mistaken belief they were related to the film.

The plaintiffs are seeking triple damages, restitution, and attorney fees, requesting a jury trial. While Sony Pictures Animation produced the film, it is not named as a defendant in the suit.
