Den Bosch court sentences two men for assault linked to asylum center protests

A police judge in Den Bosch has sentenced two men, aged 41 and 43, for the assault of a woman in June. The incident occurred on the Rietveldenweg in Den Bosch, following tensions in the nearby village of Engelen regarding a planned asylum seeker center for fifty minors.

The suspects, Jeremy van L. and Freek Q., blocked the victim's path with a pickup truck. Jeremy van L. was convicted of kicking the woman in the head and body, receiving a sentence of 36 days in prison, 120 hours of community service, and a two-month suspended sentence. Freek Q. was sentenced to 240 hours of community service, including 80 hours suspended, after spraying the woman with a red substance.

The men claimed the victim had sabotaged protests against the asylum center by damaging flags and signs. Both defendants expressed regret during the proceedings. While the prosecution described the violence as “excessive” and a “targeted action,” the victim reportedly did not file a formal complaint and wished to remain uninvolved in the legal proceedings.
