Den Haag police unit to reorganize and reduce number of teams by 2027
The Den Haag police unit has announced a major reorganization scheduled for implementation in the spring of 2027. The restructuring aims to address changing crime patterns, public order issues, and workload pressures caused by teams that are currently too small to handle new tasks.
Under the new plan, the number of districts will decrease from seven to five, and the number of basic teams will be reduced from 28 to 19. The five new districts will be Haaglanden West, Haaglanden Midden, Vliet en Veen, Leiden – Bollenstreek, and Groene Hart.
In Wassenaar, the local police will operate under the new name Basisteam Overbosch – Wassenaar within the Haaglanden West district. In the Leiden region, several teams will be merged; for instance, Leiden-Noord, Leiderdorp, and Oegstgeest will form a single team. However, the current Leiden-based teams will remain temporarily unchanged because the existing Leiden-Zuid station is too small for the future team composition, and finding a suitable new location is taking longer than expected.
