DeNA BayStars face injury setback ahead of Japan Series

The Yokohama DeNA BayStars face a significant roster challenge heading into the Japan Series against the SoftBank Hawks. Outfielder Heral Encarnacion is expected to miss the championship series after sustaining a right leg injury during the final game of the Climax Series against Hanshin Tigers on October 17.

Encarnacion, who joined the team in June, has been a vital contributor to the team's second-half success, recording 11 home runs and a .293 batting average. While his performance in the Climax Series was inconsistent, he was considered a key player for breaking through SoftBank's pitching staff.

In contrast to this setback, outfielder Takaki Watarai has emerged as a standout performer during the postseason. Watarai has played a crucial role in DeNA's undefeated run through the Climax Series, including hitting solo home runs against the Giants. He has gained attention for his mental toughness and ability to remain unfazed by high-pressure environments.
