Dendermonde unveils plans for new bicycle and pedestrian tunnel
The Province of East Flanders and the City of Dendermonde have unveiled plans for a new bicycle and pedestrian tunnel on the F44, connecting the Dendermonde station to the Kalendijk area.
This project is intended to serve as a vital link in the Schelde-Dender regional cycling highway network, connecting Dendermonde with cities including Ghent, Mechelen, Aalst, Asse, Lokeren, and Boom. The initiative aims to strengthen the station's role as a regional mobility hub and improve connections between residential areas, businesses, healthcare facilities, and public transport.
An information market was held in the Dendermonde station hall to allow residents and commuters to review the construction plans and provide feedback for the design process. The project is being developed in collaboration with several agencies, including Infrabel, NMBS, and the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic.
