Deneb Medical secures 14.7 million euros for robotic spine surgery system

Deneb Medical, a San Sebastián-based medical technology company, has secured 14.7 million euros in a public-private funding round to advance the development and market launch of IZAR, its robotic spine surgery system.

The funding includes 7.2 million euros from the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), an entity under the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, and 2.5 million euros from Kutxa Fundazioa. An undisclosed U.S. medical device multinational has also contributed 5 million euros. The SETT investment is channeled through the Next Tech facility, utilizing funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and Next Generation EU.

IZAR integrates robotics, photonics, and artificial intelligence to automate spine surgery, aiming for sub-millimeter precision and improved surgical efficiency. The capital injection will support the company's continued operations in San Sebastián and the growth of its current team of 22 professionals. The involvement of a U.S. industrial partner is expected to facilitate the integration of IZAR into global surgical platforms.
