Denel reports revenue growth amid oversight concerns

Denel SOC Ltd reported a 15.8% increase in revenue for the 2025/26 period, rising from R1.272 billion to approximately R1.473 billion. The company also reported a gross profit of R361 million and noted a business pipeline exceeding R30 billion. Group CEO Tsepo Monaheng stated that the entity is focused on executing existing programmes, strengthening financial controls, and securing new business to support South Africa’s sovereign defence capabilities.

Despite these financial gains, concerns have been raised regarding the parliamentary oversight process for state-owned defence entities. During a recent presentation to the Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans, critics argued that the Budgetary Review and Recommendation Report (BRRR) process is too compressed. It was noted that members of Parliament are expected to analyze extensive annual reports from Denel and Armscor SOC Ltd under significant time constraints, which some argue turns the oversight process into a “rubber stamp” rather than a rigorous examination of entities in financial or operational difficulty.
