Denera forms 34-institution lenders panel for Indonesia waste-to-energy projects

PT Daya Energi Bersih Nusantara (Denera) and PT Danantara Investment Management (DIM) have established a lenders panel consisting of 34 financial institutions to support Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) projects across Indonesia.

The panel includes a diverse group of participants: 13 global international banks specializing in project finance, multilateral development banks and development financial institutions such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Germany’s KfW Development Bank, as well as national commercial banks and state-owned Himbara banks.

For the second phase of the PSEL program, which targets eight cities, the estimated financing requirement is approximately US$ 1 billion. However, initial interest from the panel has reached over US$ 4 billion, representing a 3.6-fold oversubscription of the required funds. M. Ramadhan Harahap, CFO of Denera, noted that investors increasingly view these projects as social infrastructure investments aimed at addressing environmental and waste crises rather than purely commercial energy ventures. The proposed financing facilities include long-term loans with tenors of up to 23 years.
