Dengue cases rise in Quintana Roo and Campeche

Dengue fever cases are rising in the Yucatan Peninsula, with Quintana Roo and Campeche reporting increased numbers compared to previous periods.

In Quintana Roo, there are 336 confirmed cases as of epidemiological week 38, representing an 87.7 percent increase over the same period last year. The state has recorded two deaths associated with the disease. The municipalities of Playa del Carmen and Othón P. Blanco are high-risk areas, with 85 and 90 cases respectively. Health authorities have identified serotypes 2, 3, and 4 of the virus in the region. In response, vector control brigades are conducting fumigation, larval control, and inspections in homes and schools across all 11 municipalities.

In Campeche, confirmed cases have reached 50, surpassing the 46 cases recorded during the same period last year. Of these, 24 are classified as non-severe, while 26 involve warning signs or severe symptoms. Ciudad del Carmen is the most affected municipality in the state with 24 total cases. Unlike Quintana Roo, Campeche has not reported any deaths associated with the disease this year.
